Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa, Mexico: An Honest Review

Thinking about booking Dreams Sapphire Spa & Resort for your Mexico getaway this year? I spent my 10-day honeymoon there in June as a “Preferred Club” member, and let me tell you – it’s left little to be desired.

This place has some serious highs and lows that you’ll want to know about before you fly.

What’s Dreams Sapphire All About?

The Hyatt Inclusive Collection resort sits right on Mexico’s picturesque Caribbean coast in Puerto Morelos. It’s 25 minutes from Cancún International Airport, and markets itself as a fancy all-inclusive destination.

Situated off the beaten track, it’s the perfect setting to unwind. It offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of Cancún’s tourist-filled streets and vibrant nightlife. But as my new husband and I learned the hard way, a quiet setting and pretty seaview don’t make up for everything else.

Is the Food Good? Not Great, Honestly

A small portion of a main course at Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa in Mexico on a grey plate with knife and fork on either side of the plate, green puree in five dots and a small salad in the centre of the plate.
This tiny salad shows exactly what we mean about the disappointing portion sizes. It’s barely enough food to cover this large plate. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn-Press)

Let’s just say the dining experience was one of the biggest letdowns. Between limited options, tiny portions, and uncomfortably hot restaurants, mealtimes became something to endure rather than enjoy.

Limited Restaurant Options

For a luxury all-inclusive resort, the dining options are pretty disappointing. There just aren’t enough different places to eat, which can get pretty boring when you’re staying for more than a few days. By day three, I felt like I was eating the same stuff over and over again.

Tiny Portions That’ll Leave You Hungry

And here’s the most disappointing part of the food offering: the portion sizes are pretty small. I’m not talking swanky restaurant fine dining portions, I mean actually small.

For evenings where we ventured away from helping ourselves to the dried-up buffet food at World Café, this was seriously frustrating.

Two pieces of stuffed pasta in a light creamy sauce at the resort’s Portofino restaurant don’t constitute a main course in my book. Our tummies were still rumbling after most meals, and we ended up ordering room service way more than we should have needed to.

(FYI: if you’re still craving a hearty meal after your bite-sized three-course dinner, be prepared to wait approximately one hour for room service to arrive).

No AC in the Restaurants (Seriously!)

An open-air restaurant dining area at Dreams Sapphire Resort Mexico with thatched roof palapa, water feature view, and no air conditioning at the all-inclusive resort.
The restaurants at Dreams Sapphire look inviting. But dining here in intense humidity without air conditioning made meals uncomfortably hot. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn-Press)

This one was mind-blowing. In the middle of Mexico’s crazy humidity and mid-30-degree Celsius temperatures, most restaurants didn’t have air conditioning. Picture trying to enjoy your dinner while sweating through your clothes and having to mop your brow with a napkin.

It made every meal feel rushed. We just couldn’t wait to get to the air-conditioned Preferred Club Lounge or head back to our room.

The Rooms: Clean But Problematic

The tired-looking accommodations were honestly a tale of two extremes: pristine cleanliness thanks to amazing housekeeping, but plagued by pretty serious comfort and service issues. They mastered the basics but completely forgot about the simple extras that make a difference.

Housekeeping Was Amazing

I’ve got to give credit where it’s due: the housekeeping staff were superb! Our room was spotless every single day. Fresh towels, perfectly made beds, sparkling bathroom – they really went above and beyond.

If I could rate housekeeping separately, they’d get five stars.

AC Problems That Made Life Miserable

A hotel room at Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa in Mexico with an ocean view balcony, king bed, seating area, and ceiling fan with green throw and pillows at the all-inclusive resort.
When the AC broke down, even that ceiling fan couldn’t handle Mexico’s brutal humidity. It turned our room into an unbearable sauna. (Image credit: Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa)

But here’s where it all went downhill fast. The air conditioning in our room (and several others, from talking to other guests) broke down. We’re talking hours without AC in that intense Mexican humidity.

We couldn’t stay in the room too long in the morning because it was like a sauna getting ready. Maintenance did fix it eventually, but this happened a few times during our stay.

Minibar Fails

The minibar situation was problematic from the get-go. Some days it was stocked, other days it wasn’t. The worst part? Sometimes there wasn’t even bottled water, which meant having to call down most days and ask for water to be sent up.

For an all-inclusive resort, this felt fairly amateur. It promises a fully stocked minibar every day as part of its Preferred Club offering.

Missing Home Comforts

Some rooms didn’t even have bathrobes and slippers. These are pretty standard at any decent resort, let alone one calling itself a spa resort. From chatting with other guests around the Preferred Club pool bar, some requests for robes and slippers were refused by front desk staff for no apparent reason.

The Beach Problem Nobody Talks About

Hands down, this was probably the most disappointing part of our stay; I’m honestly surprised more reviews don’t mention it. The beach situation was so bad that it affected the experience in ways I never could have imagined.

Seaweed, Seaweed, Seaweed

The beach at Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa in Cancun, Mexico, with a row of lounge chairs, Caribbean ocean, and visible seaweed washed up on shoreline.
The seaweed built up along the water’s edge. It only got worse during our stay, creating a smell that drifted throughout the Dreams Sapphire resort. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn-Press)

The beach was covered in the stuff – and I don’t mean a little bit. Massive piles of rotting seaweed lined the seafront and destroyed any opportunity to take a dip. It wasn’t just ugly to look at; it created this awful smell that you couldn’t bypass.

Before jetting off, I envisaged lazy days of reading my books against a backdrop of crushing waves and sipping mojitos. But the only time we braved a wander to the beach was to check out the beach bar one afternoon.

After a few moments, we headed back to the Preferred Club pool bar to escape the overpowering stench.

The Stink Factor

That seaweed smell, unfortunately, didn’t stay on the beach – it wafted throughout the whole resort. Even sitting by the pool, sipping a cocktail at an indoor bar, or eating in the restaurants, you’d catch the scent of it. It killed the tropical paradise vibe they’re aiming for.

The One Thing They Got Right: The Staff

Housekeeping and poolside service at Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa in Mexico was fantastic, with champagne glasses delivered to guests relaxing by the pool at the all-inclusive Caribbean resort.
Moments like this reminded us why the Dreams Sapphire staff deserve credit. They brought drinks with genuine smiles and made us feel welcomed. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn-Press)

If there’s one reason this resort isn’t getting a completely scathing review, it’s because of the hardworking people who work there. Their warmth and professionalism were honestly the highlight of our stay.

Friendly & Attentive

Here’s what saved this place from being a complete disaster: the staff were wonderful. The pool bar servers greeted us with genuine smiles. The restaurant wait staff also seemed to care about making our stay better.

Helpful Staff Despite Everything

Even with the crippling AC problems and lack of stocked minibars, the staff worked hard to fix things. They couldn’t control the bigger problems with the resort, but their attitude and effort showed. These people deserve much better than the mess they’re having to work with.

Should You Book Dreams Sapphire?

The Dreams Sapphire entrance promises luxury. However, as our honest review reveals, what lies beyond this façade is a mixed bag of experiences. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn-Press)

To be brutally honest, Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa has some serious issues. The lack of restaurant variety, tiny food portions, broken AC, and that awful seaweed smell put a damper on what should have been a relaxing break after the stresses of organising our wedding day.

If you’re the type of holidaymaker who values super clean rooms, you’ll have an okay time. Friendly service is also prioritised over everything else. The staff does try their best, and the housekeeping is top-notch.

But honestly? If reliable air conditioning, good food variety, and a pleasant-smelling beach are important to you (and why wouldn’t they be?), I’d recommend looking elsewhere for your Mexico holiday.

There are many other great resorts out there for you to explore without having to settle for this many problems.

Smart Wedding Budgeting Tips for Your Dream Day

Planning a wedding is an exciting and overwhelming process. There are many details to consider, but the biggest challenge is managing your budget. Recent figures from Bridebook’s UK Wedding Report 2025 found that the average UK wedding costs £20,822.

Knowing where to invest and cut costs helps you avoid financial strain. The key to a well-balanced wedding budget is knowing which aspects are worth splurging on. Figuring out where savings can be made without compromising the experience is also essential.

This guide offers essential insights into making smart financial choices while creating the wedding of your dreams.

Save: Your Wedding Cake

Save on your wedding cake by choosing a small decorative cake for the ceremony. Serve guests a budget-friendly sheet cake. (Image credit: Kaydn Pierce/Unsplash)

A towering, multi-tiered wedding cake may look impressive, but it often comes with a hefty price tag. Instead of splurging on a large custom cake, use a smaller decorative cake for the ceremonial cake-cutting and serve your wedding guests with a more affordable sheet cake.

Another popular choice is an assortment of desserts like cookies, cupcakes, or dessert bars. It’s budget-friendly and offers variety for your guests. By thinking creatively about dessert options, you’ll cut costs and delight guests with tasty treats.

Average cost: £280 – £800

Splurge: Wedding Photography & Videography

Capture every moment with a professional photographer and videographer. Expert skills guarantee no emotion or candid memory is lost. (Image credit: Chris Cxo/Unsplash)

When your wedding day has come and gone, the only things left behind are memories. High-quality photography and videography guarantee those memories are preserved for a lifetime. A professional photographer and videographer have the experience, equipment, and skills. They capture emotions and candid moments that otherwise are forgotten.

Investing in experienced professionals ensures stunning photos and videos that will be cherished for generations. It may be tempting to cut costs by asking a friend to take pictures. However, poor lighting and missed moments aren’t worth the savings.

Average cost: £2,000 – £4,800

Save: Stationery & Wedding Invites

Beautifully designed invitations are stunning, but they often end up discarded after the event. Instead of investing in expensive, custom-printed invitations with intricate details, think about digital invitations or simple, elegant printed designs.

Digital invitations are cost-effective, eco-friendly and convenient for tracking RSVPs. If you prefer traditional paper invitations, choose minimalist designs. Use standard printing techniques and DIY creative work. These steps will reduce costs without compromising elegance.

Average cost: £160 – £640

Splurge: Your Wedding Venue

Choosing a budget venue may seem like a savings win, but extra costs for décor add up fast. Invest wisely for the perfect wedding ambience. (Image credit: Abby Savage/Unsplash)

Your wedding venue is the foundation of the day. It sets the mood, delivers the backdrop for photos, and determines the overall atmosphere of the day. Whether it’s an elegant manor house, a scenic vineyard, or a cosy barn, it is essential to choose a high-quality venue. The venue should match your needs and comfortably accommodate guests.

It’s tempting to try to save money by booking a cheaper venue. However, you’ll likely end up spending more on decorations and rentals. You might need items like linens and lighting to compensate for the lack of ambience. A well-chosen venue limits the need for excessive décor.

Average cost: £2,400 – £12,000

Save: Wedding Flowers & Decorations

Save on wedding décor by repurposing ceremony flowers for the reception. Swap pricey centerpieces for candles and DIY touches. (Image credit: Thomas William/Unsplash)

Floral arrangements and wedding décor quickly add up. However, there are many ways to create a beautiful aesthetic without overspending. Opting for in-season flowers is one of the best ways to save money. They are more readily available and less expensive than out-of-season blooms.

Also, mix fresh flowers with greenery for beautiful arrangements without the high cost. Another budget-friendly option is to repurpose ceremony flowers for the reception. Replace extravagant centrepieces with simple candle arrangements, fairy lights, and DIY décor to cut costs.

Average cost: £400 – £2,800

Splurge: Catering & Wedding Breakfast

Cut wedding catering costs without sacrificing quality by opting for a curated menu with fewer, high-quality dishes. (Image credit: Chuttersnap/Unsplash)

Food plays a pivotal role in every wedding. Your guests will remember the quality of the wedding breakfast long after the day has passed. Therefore, catering is a key element to invest in. A well-prepared, delicious meal satisfies guests and boosts the overall experience.

Cutting corners on catering will lead to long service delays, mediocre food, and insufficient portions. For catering that is not provided by the venue, a reputable caterer ensures a smooth dining experience. To manage costs, consider offering a carefully curated menu with fewer options rather than compromising on food quality.

Average cost: £40 – £120 per guest

Save: Wedding Favours

Consider skipping forgettable wedding favours and opt for practical, meaningful alternatives that guests will truly appreciate. (Image credit: Paul Stollery/Unsplash)

Wedding favours are a charming touch, but they often go unnoticed or left behind by guests. Instead of spending money on small trinkets, think about more practical or meaningful alternatives. Some couples choose to donate to a charity in their guests’ names. Others choose edible favours like homemade cookies, small jars of honey, or personalised chocolates.

If favours are a must, DIY options add a personal touch while keeping costs low. By cutting unnecessary expenses on favours, you’ll free up funds for other elements.

Average cost: £0.80 – £4 per guest

Splurge: Wedding Entertainment

Entertainment is what keeps the energy alive throughout the reception. Whether it’s a live band, a DJ, or a string quartet, professional entertainment keeps your guests engaged. A talented DJ or band will read the crowd. They will keep the dance floor full, and make transitions between key moments seamless.

Skimping on entertainment with a pre-made playlist or hiring an inexperienced performer will lead to awkward silences and a lacklustre atmosphere. Investing in quality entertainment guarantees a lively and memorable celebration.

Average cost: £800 – £4,000

Save: Suits & Wedding Dresses

Wedding dresses and suits are one of the most expensive purchases for the big day. There are many ways to look stunning without spending a big chunk of your wedding fund. Instead of buying a designer gown at full price, explore sample sales, off-the-rack dresses, or online retailers that offer stylish yet affordable options.

Some brides find beautiful dresses from mainstream retailers at a fraction of the cost. Grooms also save by renting a tuxedo or buying a suit that can be worn again for other formal occasions. Pre-owned wedding attire is another excellent way to find high-quality attire at a lower cost.

Average cost: £400 – £2,400 for a wedding dress; £160 – £640 for a suit or tuxedo

Wedding Budgeting Made Simple

Planning a wedding on a budget doesn’t mean sacrificing quality. By understanding which parts deserve an investment and where to cut costs, you’ll create a beautiful wedding without financial stress. Prioritising photography, venue, and catering ensures an enjoyable day for you and your guests.

At the same time, saving on invitations, decorations, favours, and cake helps to keep expenses manageable. With thoughtful planning and smart decision-making, you’ll have the wedding of your dreams without landing in financial hot water.

How to Combat Wedding Day Nerves: 9 Practical Tips for a Calm and Joyful Celebration

Your wedding day is a pivotal moment filled with joy, love, and excitement. However, it’s generally filled with nervousness, anxiety, and stress. It’s okay to feel a mix of emotions as you prepare to say “I do”.

The key to enjoying your special day is finding ways to manage those nerves so you can focus on the beauty of the occasion. Here, we’ll explore 9 strategies to stay calm, centred, and confident on your wedding day.

1. Plan Ahead to Reduce Stress

It sounds simple, but the more you prepare, the less there is to worry about. Make sure every detail is organised well in advance like catering, timelines, entertainment, and guest accommodation. A well-thought-out plan helps you relax rather than deal with last-minute issues.

Limiting the chance of surprises helps you feel reassured. When everything is mapped out, you’ll be present and truly enjoy each moment.

2. Delegate Tasks to Trusted People

You don’t have to handle everything on your own. Assign tasks to trusted wedding guests like family and friends. You can also assign tasks to a wedding coordinator so you can focus on the day. Whether it’s someone liaising with the photographer or ensuring the reception runs smoothly, reliable support makes a world of difference.

Sharing out tasks lightens your workload and eases decision-making pressure on the big day. You’ll stay focused on what truly matters: enjoying your wedding and cherishing every moment.

3. Practice Relaxation Techniques

Be sure to take time for relaxation like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga as part of your pre-wedding routine. These techniques help reduce anxiety and keep you grounded. Even spending a few moments breathing deeply before walking down the aisle will have a powerful calming effect.

Practising relaxation techniques lowers stress levels and boosts your sense of peace. They improve emotional stability, ensuring you feel your best as you step into this key life milestone.

4. Schedule Alone Time Together

Amid the hustle and bustle of your wedding day, take a moment to step away with your partner. Whether it’s a quiet breakfast, a short walk, or a private first look at the wedding venue, spending time together reminds you why you’re celebrating this day.

Strengthening your emotional connection before the ceremony offers a comforting sense of partnership. Quiet moments allow you to soak everything in before the celebrations begin, making your wedding day even more special.

5. Keep a Positive Mindset

Although you’ve spent months or even years organising everything, it’s important to shift your focus from perfection to enjoyment. Understand that minor hiccups may happen, but they won’t take away from the day.

Keeping a positive mindset encourages a stress-free environment and prevents unnecessary worrying over small details. By focusing on the bigger picture, you’ll cherish the day without sweating the small stuff.

6. Get Plenty of Sleep and Stay Hydrated

A well-hydrated and well-rested body will handle stress much better. The night before your wedding, make sure to prioritise good quality sleep and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Remember that excessive caffeine or alcohol heightens anxiety.

Ensuring you wake up refreshed and energised prevents fatigue and dehydration-related stress. Staying hydrated helps maintain a calm and balanced mood. You’ll enjoy every part of your wedding with a clear mind and positive energy.

7. Have a Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Prepare a small kit with essentials. Include items like breath mints, tissues, makeup, and a compact mirror. Anything else that will come in handy is also a good idea.

Knowing you have everything you need will give you peace of mind. Also, an emergency kit helps you feel prepared for any last-minute mishaps like a sweaty top lip or running mascara. With a wedding day kit on hand, you’ll handle unexpected situations effortlessly.

8. Use Aromatherapy for Instant Calm

Scents have a deep impact on emotions and stress levels. Consider using essential oils like lavender, chamomile, or sandalwood to create a calming atmosphere. Apply a few drops on your wrists, light a scented candle, or add essential oils to a diffuser.

The right fragrance instantly promotes relaxation and eases tension. This simple yet effective trick will help you stay calm and centred.

9. Play Uplifting Music or a Podcast

Music has the power to influence mood. Listening to uplifting songs or a motivational podcast can be a great way to ease nervousness. Create a playlist that brings you joy. A lighthearted podcast will also keep your mind engaged in something positive.

It will prove as a great distraction and help shift your focus away from anxiety. You’ll start your wedding day on a happy and relaxed note.

Be Happy & Embrace the Moment

Wedding day nerves are completely natural. But they don’t have to overshadow your joy. By planning ahead, practising relaxation techniques, focusing on positivity, and leaning on your support system, you’ll enjoy your special day with peace of mind.

Remember, this is a celebration of love. Embrace every moment and make beautiful memories that will last a lifetime. Take a deep breath, smile, and step into this exciting new chapter.

What You Need to Know About Choosing a Wedding Venue

Choosing the right wedding venue is one of the most crucial decisions you will make. Your venue sets the tone for your big day and influences everything from your guest experience to your budget.

Whether you’re dreaming of a grand ballroom, a rustic barn, or a scenic outdoor setting, several key factors should be considered before making your final decision.

Here’s what you need to know about selecting the right wedding venue.

1. Venue Capacity

Make sure your wedding venue accommodates your guest list. The right capacity creates the perfect balance between intimacy and celebration. (Image credit: Al Elmes/Unsplash)

The size of your guest list plays a significant role in determining your wedding venue. A space that is too small can feel cramped and uncomfortable, while an overly large venue will feel less intimate.

Before you start touring venues, estimate your guest count. This will ensure that the space can comfortably accommodate everyone. As well as overall capacity, consider the layout of the space.

Some venues have multiple rooms or sections. This can help separate different parts of the day, such as the ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening entertainment. If you plan to have a dance floor, make sure the venue’s space allows for it without making the room feel overcrowded.

2. Accommodation for Guests

Particularly for guests travelling from afar, think about accommodation at your wedding venue to make their experience enjoyable and memorable. (Image credit: Mark Champs/Unsplash)

For guests to travel for your wedding, consider a venue that offers on-site accommodation or has nearby hotels. Lodging options are convenient for out-of-town guests. It allows for a seamless transition between the ceremony and reception.

Many venues offer special group rates for wedding parties; ask about available options. For venues without on-site lodging, think about the available transportation. Offering shuttle services between the venue and nearby hotels ensures your guests travel safely.

If you have international guests, check if the venue is within a reasonable distance from the airport. Ensure it has easy access to trains and buses.

3. Catering & Menu Options

Be sure to check menu options, dietary requirements and tasting sessions for your wedding venue food. Bar services are another key factor. (Image credit: Casey Chae/Unsplash)

Food is a major highlight of any wedding. Therefore, a venue with excellent catering options is essential. Some will have in-house catering services, while others allow you to bring in your own caterer.

Ask about menu options, dietary requirements, and whether tastings are available. If you have a specific vision for your wedding meal, talk to the venue. Confirm if they can meet your expectations.

Beyond the food itself, consider bar services, including an open bar or drink packages. Some venues have restrictions on alcohol service. Make sure to clarify if they allow outside vendors or have designated bartenders.

Plus, ask about corkage fees or limitations on bringing your own alcohol.

4. Ceremony & Reception Timings

Ask about the wedding venue’s timeline for the ceremony and reception. Noise restrictions are generally in place after a certain time. (Image credit: Leonardo Miranda/Unsplash)

Check the venue’s policies on ceremony and reception timings. You’ll find some have strict time limits; others will offer flexibility. Planning on a late-night celebration? Find out whether there are any noise restrictions or curfews.

For strict timing restrictions, ask about extending your booking and whether there are extra fees involved. If your wedding will include multiple events, like a rehearsal dinner or next-day brunch, see if they can host those as well.

Booking the same venue for multiple events will make planning easier.

5. Location & Accessibility

Location is another integral factor to consider. A convenient venue location makes it easier for guests to attend, especially if they are travelling from different places. Think about accessibility, parking availability, and transportation options.

If your venue is in a remote location, consider arranging shuttle services for your guests. For destination weddings, look into local attractions for your guests to enjoy before or after the wedding.

Create a list of nearby restaurants, landmarks and entertainment spots to make the most of their experience.

6. Budget Considerations

You’ll quickly notice that wedding venues come in all price ranges. Establishing a budget before you start your search is important. Ask about venue rental fees, deposits, and any additional costs for services such as decorations, setup, and cleanup.

Some venues offer all-inclusive packages, which is cost-effective and simplifies planning. Make sure to clarify what is included in the venue fee. Some venues charge extra for essentials such as tables, chairs, linens, and even staff members.

Understanding these details upfront prevents unexpected expenses later.

7. Entertainment & Music Options

Ensure your venue allows bands or DJs by checking for space and sound restrictions. Some venues also require vendors from an approved list. (Image credit: Mitchell Orr/Unsplash)

If you have a particular vision for your wedding entertainment, make sure the venue can accommodate it. Check whether there are space restrictions for bands, DJs or dance floors. You’ll find some venues have sound limitations or require vendors from an approved list. Double-check these details in advance to avoid last-minute surprises.

Ask if there are restrictions on amplified music, especially if the venue is located in a residential area. Generally, outdoor spaces will have stricter noise ordinances. It’s important to check whether you can play music until late at night.

8. Venue Appearance & Theme

Choose a wedding venue that complements your theme to save time and money on decorations. Also, consider the season of your wedding. (Image credit: Thomas William/Unsplash)

Your wedding space should align with your overall theme and vision. Whether you’re going for a romantic garden wedding, a modern urban vibe, or a vintage rustic look, you should choose a venue that complements your style.

While decorations enhance the space, a venue that naturally fits your theme saves time and money on additional décor. Also, think about the season you’re getting married. A venue that looks stunning in summer may not have the same appeal in winter.

Check for features like indoor fireplaces or outdoor heating options if your wedding falls in the cooler months.

9. Backup Plan for Weather

A stunning outdoor wedding with clear blue skies is picture-perfect. But having a backup plan is essential. Ask the venue about contingency options in case of bad weather, like an indoor space or tent rentals.

Ensure that the alternative setup is just as beautiful and practical as your original plan. Even if you’re having an indoor wedding, check that the venue is equipped for temperature control.

A lack of air conditioning or heating leads to an uncomfortable experience for guests.

10. Reviews & Recommendations

Before you make a final decision, spend time researching reviews and testimonials from past couples. Online reviews, social media feedback, and recommendations from friends and family are valuable insights into the service, reliability, and overall experience.

Also, think about visiting the venue more than once and at different times of the day. This helps you assess the lighting, ambience, and overall feel of the space.

11. Restrictions & Venue Policies

Considering a pet-friendly wedding or sparklers? Be sure to check with the wedding venue beforehand to prevent any disappointment. (Image credit: Andreas Ronningen/Unsplash)

Many couples overlook venue-specific policies that impact their plans. Ask about restrictions on décor (like candles or confetti), setup times, and whether outside vendors are allowed.

It’s important to note that some spaces require couples to use in-house services exclusively, limiting your options.

How to Create the Perfect Wedding Guest Hamper: 8 Top Tips

Your wedding is one of the biggest moments in anyone’s life. What better way to express gratitude to your guests than a stunning wedding guest hamper? A beautifully crafted hamper filled with local and personalised treats leaves them with a lasting memory of your special day.

Whether you’re hosting a country manor wedding or a sleek city affair, creating a wedding guest hamper requires a touch of creativity and attention to detail.

1. Selecting the Right Box or Basket

Before selecting sweet treats and trinkets, start by choosing the best container for your wedding guest hamper. Consider stylish woven baskets or elegant gift boxes. Alternatively, eco-friendly tote bags could fit well. Think about which choice will best suit the theme of your wedding.

Opt for packaging that is both practical and aesthetically appealing. It allows your guests to reuse it long after the wedding day.

2. Hand-Crafted Local Delicacies

To make your wedding guest hamper truly special, add a touch of local charm. Local preserves like chutneys, honey, or artisanal jams are an excellent way to incorporate this. They showcase regional flavours and are a delicious reminder of your wedding’s location.

Research your local farmers’ markets to find a range of suppliers. Your guests will love indulging in these delightful preserves.

3. Add Personalised Keepsakes

Make sure to include a personalised keepsake that reflects your love story to make your hamper even more impressive. Engraved keychains, candles, or small photo frames of the happy couple are heartfelt keepsakes for your guests to take away.

You could also add a handwritten note sharing a meaningful anecdote about your relationship. These extra touches make it more sentimental and make your guests feel connected to your special day.

4. Homemade Baked Treats

Homemade goodies are the epitome of love. Baked treats add a personal touch that makes your hamper extra special. Think about including brownies, cookies, a regional delicacy or even miniature loaves of banana bread wrapped in parchment paper.

For an elegant touch, introduce sweet treats like macarons or shortbread with customised icing to match your wedding’s colour scheme. Small sweet treats can be presented in little white organza bags for a simple but chic appearance.

5. Refreshing Beverages

Any wedding guest hamper isn’t complete without a beverage or two! Whether you decide to add a mini bottle of Prosecco or champagne, or a local craft beer, a drink option is always welcome.

Don’t forget about the array of non-alcoholic choices like a revitalising herbal tea or a specialty coffee for non-drinkers.

6. Scented and Pampering Products

To improve the luxury of your wedding guest hamper, consider including scented candles, handcrafted soaps, or relaxing bath salts. These small yet thoughtful products create a spa-like experience, allowing guests to unwind before or after the wedding.

Lavender sachets and essential oil rollers also promote relaxation and stress relief. Including a soft eye mask or a mini hand cream further boosts the pampering experience.

7. A Touch of Entertainment

A few light-hearted trinkets to your wedding guest hamper can make it even more unique. Think about adding a mini puzzle, a wedding-themed trivia game or a small deck of cards. If your wedding is based on a specific theme, consider adding a custom playlist QR code.

A local area guide is another thoughtful addition. You can also include a handwritten note suggesting local activities, pubs, and shops. They ensure your guests have an engaging and memorable experience.

8. Thoughtful Presentation

Alongside the container, presentation is paramount when it comes to crafting wedding guest hampers. Small but impactful additions like custom tags, dried flowers and ribbons instantly boost its appearance.

Also, eco-friendly wrapping materials like cloth bags or recycled paper add a sustainable detail. A heartfelt thank you note with a handwritten message adds a final, meaningful touch.

Constructing the perfect wedding guest hamper is a fabulous way to show appreciation. With enough planning and attention to detail, your hampers will leave a lasting impression.

They will remind your guests of your wedding day for years to come.

7 Top Tips on How to Save Money at the Airport

Planning to escape but dreading the airport money drain? While you’ve budgeted for your dream holiday, airport expenses quickly dent your bank balance before you board.

From overpriced parking to extortionate food and drink, these costs add up fast. For this feature, we outline seven money-saving airport hacks that will protect your travel budget.

1. Get the Train or Coach

A gold and white airport bus showing two whells on its left side and the passenger door.
Booking a coach ticket with Megabus or National Express to the airport will save you a considerable amount of money. (Image credit: Unsplash)

Petrol prices are rising, and airport parking is expensive. You may find that booking a train to the airport is more cost-effective. Alternatively, jumping on a coach offers better value for money. If you’re not strapped for time, book a coach ticket with National Express or Megabus.

For example, a five-and-a-half-hour coach journey with Megabus from Cardiff to Manchester Airport on a Tuesday at 10:30 AM will cost approximately £34.49 (including a £1.50 booking fee and £2 seat reservation charge).

Booking a coach may not always be possible. In that case, buying train tickets will still save you money compared to leaving your car at the airport. The same journey via train will take less time (approx three hours and 50 minutes) costing anywhere from £45.70 to £95.80.

Prices depend on seat availability – ensure to book in advance. Also, you’ll save a significant amount of money if you travel outside of peak times.

Make sure to do your research on the cheapest routes before you book. For example, taking the Elizabeth Line from London Paddington to Heathrow Airport is much cheaper. This option is more affordable than the Heathrow Express train.

2. Book an Airport Lounge

You’ll be mistaken in thinking airport lounges are just for the rich and famous. Granted, they’re not cheap. If you enjoy a few glasses of wine with a hearty lunch before you board, you should book a lounge.

Airport lounges offer a vast range of food and drink to enjoy before you board. You’ll save a small fortune instead of paying high prices at terminal restaurants. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn)

Make sure to make your reservation in advance to save money. Turning up on the day will cost more than booking online.

All airports have a generous selection of lounges to choose from at different price points. Below, we’ve detailed the prices for airport lounges (excluding airline-specific lounges) accessible to all passengers at eight UK airports. Prices are correct as of March 2025.

Be sure to book directly through the lounge itself and not the airport. You’ll save money by not paying service fee charges.

3. Avoid Mini Toiletries

Reusable bottles work out much cheaper than buying mini toiletries for every trip. Fill them up with your everyday toiletries from home. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn)

Buying mini toiletries at the airport is more convenient than packing standard-size toiletries in your suitcase. It limits space and impacts your baggage allowance. However, travel-size toiletries from soaps to shampoos and conditioners can cost a hefty amount considering their size.

For example, a 20ml travel-size Colgate toothpaste from Boots is priced at £1.50. The same toothpaste at 75ml costs £2.50. Another example is a 90ml travel-size Aussie shampoo which costs £2.50. The same Aussie shampoo for a 500ml bottle is £5.99.

Clear, reusable bottles are a better economical choice. You can use them for all future trips. Refill them using your standard toiletries from home. It also reduces the amount of plastic waste from buying new mini toiletries every time you travel.

4. Book Car Parking Online

If public transport to and from the airport is not an option, make sure to book car parking online early. Plan this well in advance. You’ll find significant discounts compared to on-the-day rates.

For passengers opting to leave their cars at the airport, you’ll save money by booking car parking in well in advance. (Image credit: Unsplash)

Various operators use dynamic pricing similar to airlines. Prices rise as parking spaces fill up and your travel date approaches.

Booking in advance also guarantees parking space during busy travel periods like holidays and summer vacations. This limits the stress of arriving at the airport only to find car parks are full.

Do your research and compare key features like security and shuttle frequency to fit your budget and flight times.

5. Sign Up for Discounts

Airports offer discounts for duty-free shopping. They also provide discounts on parking, food, and drink if you sign up for their reward platforms. (Image credit: Unsplash)

Signing up for airport discounts before you travel can save you a lot of money. Many airports offer discounts that give you special deals on food, lounges and shopping which are unavailable for regular passengers.

It only takes a few minutes to sign up online. You’ll instantly get access to discount codes and coupons. For example, Luton Airport offers a myLLA platform for exclusive discounts, and Heathrow Airport offers its My Heathrow service.

Some airports also team up with credit cards or airlines to give you extra benefits, including faster security lines.

6. Swerve the Bureau de Change

A female with painted nails wearing a silver watch holding money in different currencies including the US dollar and Euros against a wooden counter top.
Bureau de Change at airports is notorious for its poor currency exchange rates. Make sure to do your homework and exchange your currency before you arrive. (Image credit Unsplash)

Changing your money at the airport is usually a bad idea if you want to save money. Airport currency exchange shops charge much higher fees than other places. It’s much cheaper to exchange currency before your trip.

Check out the Post Office Exchange Rate Calculator for the best rates. Also, Which? has researched the best debit and credit cards to use abroad in 2025.

7. Pack a Water Bottle

A female wearing a grey sweater standing next to a train on a train station platform holding a black and green reusable water bottle.
A reusable water bottle will keep you hydrated through the pressure of navigating around airports. It will also save you money on buying expensive bottled water. (Image credit: Unsplash)

Airport prices for everyday essentials like bottled water can be considerably higher than your local supermarket. That’s why packing your reusable water bottle will keep you hydrated without spending airport prices for bottled water.

Most airports including Heathrow, Manchester, Gatwick and Bristol have water refill stations throughout their terminals. However, it’s important to note that the general liquid allowance for airport security is 100ml.

Make sure you wait until you’re airside to refill your water bottle.

Discover the Princess Diana & The Royals Exhibition in Las Vegas

Explore one of Las Vegas’s hidden gems at the Princess Diana & The Royals Exhibition. Situated at The Shops at Crystals, the showcase includes over 700 artifacts, including Diana’s iconic outfits over the years.

Whether you’re after a unique Vegas experience or a keen royal follower, it offers a gripping insight into the life of the “People’s Princess.” Here are four reasons why the Princess Diana Exhibition is a must-see.

1. A Remarkable Curated Journey Through Time

Two images of Princess Diana on display at the Princess Diana & The Royals Exhibition against a dark blue wall and one black and white image in a gold frame next to "Girl About Town" and "Exit" signs.
Located at The Shops at Crystals, this must-see showcase features over 700 artifacts, including Diana’s most iconic outfits. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn)

The exhibition is in a beautifully designed 10,000-square-foot space with carefully curated displays across 12 rooms. Most visitors, including myself, spend around 60-90 minutes exploring the various sections.

It follows timely and impactful sequences to offer historical background and personal insights into Diana and the Royal Family.

2. Admire Princess Diana’s Iconic Outfits

I was especially fascinated by the selection of Princess Diana’s iconic outfits. You’ll be mesmerised by the exquisite designs from designers like Bruce Oldfield, Zandra Rhodes and Catherine Walker. The recreation of her wedding gown when she married Prince Charles in 1981 is simply breathtaking.

These spectacular outfits detail her transformation from a shy young lady to a worldwide fashion superstar. What I really appreciated was how the curators balanced Diana’s chic fashion sense with recognition of her humanitarian work.

3. Explore Beyond Diana’s Story

While Diana is the key attraction, I found the correspondence and memorabilia from other Royal Family members including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles equally captivating. This broader perspective offers a valuable look into the monarchy as an institution.

I spent some time exploring the section featuring royal weddings throughout different eras. The monarchy has evolved significantly through different eras. Vast changes from Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960 to William and Catherine’s April 2011 nuptials show this evolution.

4. Diana’s Legacy: The Emotional Conclusion

A recreation of the black Buckingham Palace gates after Princess Diana died with pink, blue, yellow and white flowers displayed in front of it and a screen picture of Buckingham Palace in the background.
A recreation of the flowers and heartfelt messages lining the gates of Buckingham Palace, honouring the life and legacy of Princess Diana after her passing. (Image credit: Jack D Wynn)

This exhibition focuses on Diana’s impact on both the monarchy and global causes. I found it particularly moving – it maintains a respectful tone while acknowledging her tragic 1997 death. The curators have done a superb job creating a space for reflection on her life’s work.

Final Verdict

What struck me most was how effectively it portrays Diana as a complex person who used her platform to promote change in the world. The personal letters and candid photographs helped me relate to the person behind the royal title.

  1. Transportation: While Uber is readily available, distances on the Strip can be deceptive. What looks walkable on a map can be quite far in reality, especially in the desert heat.
  2. Hydration: Las Vegas has a desert climate. Staying hydrated is crucial, especially if you’re enjoying a glass of wine or two.
  3. Accommodation: Choose your hotel based on your itinerary priorities and budget. Central hotels like The Venetian, Bellagio, and Caesars Palace put you in the heart of the action. Slightly off-strip options like Park MGM offer more affordable rates. Consider the Wynn Las Vegas complex for a more relaxed atmosphere.
  4. Comfortable footwear: You’ll do much more walking than you expect, so pack comfortable shoes.
  5. Reservations: For popular restaurants and shows, make reservations well in advance of your trip.
  6. Best time to visit: Spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) offer the most pleasant temperatures, typically between 21-26°C. Summer months (June-August) can be extremely hot with temperatures often exceeding 37°C.
  7. Attraction wait times: Popular attractions like the High Roller, Eiffel Tower Experience, and The Sphere often have lengthy queues. This is particularly true on weekends. Visit these attractions on weekday mornings or late evenings to minimise wait times.
  8. Resort fees: Be aware that most Las Vegas hotels charge daily resort fees on top of the room rate.

This four-day itinerary offers a perfect blend of iconic Las Vegas experiences. It’s a pretty packed itinerary. Nonetheless, this guide ensures you’ll create memories that will last long after your return flight home.
